3140 Inspection Guidelines - BB3 Pumps

Description
Inspection Guidelines - BB3 Pumps introduces the building blocks of a best-in-class inspection process and documentation. To write a proper and meaningful work scope, a thorough and detailed inspection report showing the “as found” condition of the pump is a necessity. It has been said that “a defect unfound is a catastrophic failure in the making.” The instructor reviews each component, its role, and how it interacts with adjacent parts. This overview provides an indication of the tolerance range that should be prescribed for long-term, failure-free operations

Learning Outcomes:

• Master general considerations of the inspection process
• Understand the application of non-destructive examinations (NDE) and interpret findings
• Understand geometric and dimensional tolerancing, including best-in-class acceptance criteria
• Identify conditions necessitating upgrades or rerates
• Define a thorough and meaningful work scope

Who Should Attend?

Chapter Summaries:

CHAPTER 1: FUNDAMENTALS OF PUMP SYSTEM INSPECTIONS

Addresses the objectives and goals of pump system inspections, covering the pre-inspection phase and essential background information. Detailed examinations of pump components, tools, and equipment used for inspection and calibration are explored. Roles and skill-based levels of inspection personnel are outlined, along with conventions and nomenclature integral to inspection procedures.

CHAPTER 2: INSPECTION OF PUMP COMPONENTS - PART I

Focuses on the visual examination of the stuffing box and its components. Detailed discussions include inspection of the shaft sleeve lock nut for signs of wear or damage. Explores the impeller components such as wear rings, split rings, and the distance sleeve. Concludes with an examination of the diffuser or channel ring.

CHAPTER 3: INSPECTION OF PUMP COMPONENTS - PART II

Explores additional components within the pump system, starting with thrust balancing devices. Covers elements like the axial thrust compensating device, balance drum, balance sleeve, and related components. Examines the outboard bearing assembly, including the sleeve, oil flinger, and bearing housing. Concludes with a Q&A section addressing key points.
